Mental Health Awareness

It is almost impossible to overstate the importance of student well-being in a world that is becoming more unpredictable and difficult to navigate. With this knowledge in mind, we began a Mental health awareness campaign involving 556 students from 4 secondary schools.

The first stage focused on the need to take charge of individual mental and emotional health. Especially in an institution where stress and anxiety to ace tests and examinations can have detrimental effects on students’ well-being. It is crucial to acquire the skills needed to manage these types of problems.

In the second stage, students were introduced to emotional intelligence. We explored how it can affect leadership/personal development, and professional advancement. We also identified the need to develop critical life skills such as self-awareness, empathy, and communication skills.

In the third stage, we explored the use of digital devices. As the use of screens becomes increasingly integrated into our daily lives, the adverse effects of excessive screen time on physical health are a growing concern. The project recognized the importance of countering this trend and instilling healthy habits early on. To do so, the students were engaged in interactive sessions, writing out on cardboard papers the significance of minimizing screen time.

This session did not simply explore the benefits of screen time reduction; it provided practical tips and strategies. Students learned how to manage their use of digital devices by striking a balance between online activities and physical interactions.

Physical games were also used during the campaign as a tool to promote participation among students, which enhanced individual problem-solving abilities during the sessions.

This project ensured students were actively taught about mental and emotional well-being and how to balance screen time and prioritize all aspects of their well-being.
